Why is There a Discrepancy in Storm Date Reporting?

Understanding discrepancies in storm dates between our tool and the NOAA site can be crucial for your work as a contractor or insurance adjuster. Here's a simplified explanation of why you may see a difference between the storm date in the PSAI Weather Report and NOAA data.

Why is There a Discrepancy in Storm Dates?

Our tool records storm data on the day it occurs. For instance, if a storm occurs on June 13th, we mark that date in our report. 


However, NOAA's approach is slightly different. They log the previous 24 hours' worth of storms at midnight of the following day. Hence, a storm from June 13th will appear in NOAA's records as June 14th.


What Does This Difference in Dates Mean?

Despite the date difference, both our tool and NOAA are referring to the same storm event. 

The discrepancy does not reflect any data inaccuracies, but is simply due to different reporting styles.

We include NOAA's data link for additional validation for your insurance claims, as NOAA's records are globally acknowledged.

Remember, when cross-referencing our report with NOAA's data, a one-day difference in storm dates is standard.
