This article explains how to customize PSAI Quote Forms. By following the instructions below, you'll be able to edit your form's display style, content, user input fields, text, color, imagery, sequence, "thank you" page, and more.
Before you can access the Customization tab to follow the instructions below, you'll need to first create and save your new marketing source. Not sure to how? Learn how to create a new marketing source here.
For a beginner's overview, read our full guide to PSAI marketing sources.
1. Go to your "Manage" tab in the PSAI admin
Open the Sources Manager page by clicking "Manage" from the left-hand toolbar.
2. Click "Edit" for the Quote Form you want to customize
You can identify Quote Forms at a glance by looking for the purple circle with white quotation marks inside.
3. Click "Customization" tab at the top
Once you've clicked on the Quote Form that you want to customize, you'll be brought to the Settings tab. At the top, click the "Customize" to enter the customization tab.
The Customize tab will show you all of the available customizations for that specific type of app. For Quote Forms, you'll see two editable sections here: one for Display Type and another below it for App Event Steps.
Customize Section #1: Display Type
Within the Customization tab, first choose the Display Type you prefer. As shown below, Quote Forms can be set to display in three different ways: Button Opens Popup (Floating), Auto Popup (Floating), and Embed on Page.
Not sure about Display Types? For guidance and examples of the three Display Types, see this article.
Customize Section #2: App Event Steps
The Display Type you choose for your Quote Form will impact the customization options that appear in the next section, App Event Steps.
The key difference is this: If you have selected Button Opens Popup (Floating), then your Quote Form will include a Start Button as the first panel under App Event Steps. You can customize the Start Button like any other Form Panel.
If either of the other two Display Types are chosen (Auto Popup or Embed on Page), then there is no Start Button to customize. You will not see a Start Button panel under App Event Steps, but the rest of the customizations will be done in the same way.
4. Click the blue pencil to edit any panel
Every panel that appears in your Quote Form can be completely customized in terms of color, content, wording, and more. Simply click the blue pencil icon for any panel you'd like to edit.
Clicking the blue pencil will open the advanced customization page, which will look slightly different depending on the specific type of panel you are editing. The three types of panels include Start Button, Form Panel, and End Panel.
Let's look at each type of panel below.
Start Button Customizations
Remember, the Start Button panel will only appear if your Display Type is set to Button Opens Popup (Floating).
When you click the blue pencil next to a Start Button panel, you will be brought to the page below.
Here you can change your Quote Form's button text by typing directly into the button on the left. You can use the panel at the right-hand side to make further edits to background color, text color, font size and style, and more.
You will also use this page to edit your popup widget's screen position: bottom left or bottom right.
If you have only one popup element on your website, then we recommended placing it at the bottom right. If that spot is being used for a popup chat box or another interactive element, then you can set your Quote Form to the bottom left instead.
Form Panel Customizations
Unlike the Start Button, Form Panels will appear for all three Display Types. These panels refer to the different steps of your form, where website users will be able to input their information.
Of any PSAI marketing source, Quote Forms offer some of the most complex customization options. You can add numerous Form Panels, request many different user inputs, and sequence the panels in many different ways.
For instance, you could stick with a simple one-panel form that requests basic homeowner information. Or you could go way more detailed with a multi-panel form that requests basic information, provides a weather report, and sets a soft appointment time. Both simple and more complex forms can be created by adding and editing Form Panels with the same Quote Form.
To edit any Form Panel, simply click the blue pencil icon.
Clicking the pencil will bring up the advanced customization page for that Form Panel. It will look something like the screenshot below. On the left is the content of your Form panel; on the right are all of the elements you can add and customize.
Note that there are two tabs on the right-hand side of the Form Panel editing page: Elements and Style.
The Elements tab includes the actual content of your Form Panel. For example, you can change the type and amount of information you are requesting from the user, you can insert a picture, you can add a comment box, you can rearrange the order of elements, and so on.
On the first Form Panel of your form, you must include the following user input fields: Name, address, and email or phone number. Learn why these specific form fields are required here.
As you might guess, the Style tab allows you to change how your form looks. With the Style tab, there are subsections for each aspect: Form Style, Heading, Text, and Buttons. Within these sections, you can change colors, font sizes, spacing, shadows, rounded or square corners, and so on.
It's a good idea to match your PSAI Quote Form to your website's existing aesthetic. If you have a web designer, get them involved here to ensure a cohesive fit.
All changes made to the Style tab are global, which means that they will affect every panel of your Quote Form. This is to ensure a cohesive look across the entire form.
End Panel Customizations
The final panel of your Quote Form is the End Panel, which you can think of as a "thank you" message. Because it is the final panel, you cannot request any further user input. The only customization options include:
- Header text
- Paragraph text
- Link to external webpage
- Add an image
Your form's End Panel is a great opportunity to direct users to continue their journey with your company. For instance, you can add a link to a gallery page to get them excited about their project or maybe a link to a "how it works" style of page so that they're prepared for their consultation.
5. Edit, delete, or reorder panels
You can remove Form Panels by clicking the gray X, and you can insert new panels by clicking the blue plus sign (+). You can also drag each panel to reorder them.
If you do reorder your Form Panels after creating them, remember that the first panel must end up including name, address, and email or phone number.
6. Preview to check your edits as you go
Because Quote Forms can become so complex, it's a good idea to use the Preview feature very often. From any Form Panel, simply click the button for "Preview" to see how your form edits look. (Clicking Preview will open your form in a new tab of your browser.)
The GIF below is an example of what a more complex form sequence can look like in Preview mode.
7. Save your changes
When you're satisfied with how your form looks, the user information it requests, and the sequence in which it flows, you're ready to save it. Simply click the green button for "Save Changes" in the upper right-hand corner.
To edit your Quote Form in the future, you can return to your Sources Manager page and follow the instructions above.
Want to edit a Quote Form that's already on your website? It's the same process! Once a PSAI app is live on your site, all changes that you make and save from your PSAI admin portal will immediately show up on your website.
