Weather data is a powerful tool for engaging homeowners—but you don't necessarily have to add a Weather Widget to your site or launch a storm campaign on Facebook in order to take advantage of PSAI's Weather technology. You can also generate an instant weather return and send it to any lead through the Com Portal.
Follow the instructions below to pull weather data for a specific address and send the report immediately.
You must be in an active engagement in order to send a weather report. If the lead engagement has been closed, the customer has closed the chat widget, or the customer has unsubscribed from your SMS/email communications, then you will not be able to send a weather report.
1. Go to the Com Portal
Navigate to the Com Portal by clicking "Com Portal" from the left-hand toolbar.
2. Find the Lead (or Add a New Contact)
In the Com Portal, use the search bar or filter options to find the lead for whom you'd like to generate the weather return.
If you'd like to send this weather report to a homeowner who does not yet exist in the Com Portal, you can do that, too. Start by clicking the pencil icon and then follow these instructions to manually add a contact to the Com Portal.
3. Click the Storm Icon
Whether you're messaging an existing lead or adding a new one, you'll click the storm icon to generate and send the weather report. (Note that the report will be sent through whichever channel you're currently communicating: email, SMS, or chat.)
Did you know that PSAI is mobile-friendly? You can generate and send a weather report on a tablet or smart phone using these same instructions.
For quicker access to PSAI on mobile devices, have your team save a shortcut to their phones or tablets.
4. Enter the Address
On the "Generate Weather Report" panel that pops up, fill in the lead's address if the field is empty. If the lead already has an address associated with him or her, then the address will autofill for you.
Once you've filled in the address as necessary, click the button for "Generate Report."
5. View the Weather Report
In a few seconds, your weather report will be generated as shown in the screenshot below. You can view the report here and then click "Add Message."
PSAI weather reports show the 5 most recent hail or wind events to touch that address. Data goes back as far as 2010.
If you want to view this weather report without actually sending it, that's perfectly okay, too! You can review the report here and exit out of the modal when you're finished. Even if you don't send the report, it'll still be saved to the lead's contact files!
6. Type Your Message
When you click "Add Message," your weather report will be pasted into the dialogue box with a default message (highlighted in the red box below).
You can edit the default message by deleting it and typing your own, or by simply typing your additional text before or after.
Like the storm cloud icon you clicked to create this weather report, the other icons at the bottom of the dialogue box provide additional messaging features:
- Sending attachments (the paperclip icon)
- Requesting reviews (the star icon)
- Adding emojis (the smiley face icon)
Once you've typed your message to your liking, click "Send" to immediately send the weather report.
Is the "Send" button grayed out and disabled? That means that the message is missing some required information—which in most cases is the subject line. Doublecheck that you've added a subject line.
Once you've clicked "Send," your weather report will be immediately sent to the lead. If the lead replies, that reply will show up in the same Com Portal thread.
You can easily view this weather return at any time in the future by clicking into the "Contact Files" panel in the right-hand column. Just click any file to enlarge it.
On the mobile view, the Contact Files panel can be accessed by clicking the three-dot "Options" menu at the top right corner.
Why send a weather report, you might be wondering? A homeowner who is already interested in improving their home will likely be even more interested if they find out that they may have suffered weather damage.
A weather report can provide that gentle push the homeowner needs to schedule an appointment with your company.
